Mahipalpur is a village that became a hotel strip. Along the NH-48 service road towards Gurugram, and in the lanes of Mahipalpur Extension behind it, sit well over a hundred small hotels and guesthouses whose single selling point is proximity: Terminal 3 is five kilometres, Terminal 1 nearer four, and a room costs ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 instead of Aerocity's ₹9,000. If you have a 6am flight and a tight budget, this is the rational choice. Nothing else recommends it.
Be clear-eyed about what you are buying. The good properties here are small, clean, tiled, air-conditioned, with a lift, a rooftop restaurant, a 24-hour desk and a free airport pickup. The bad ones are windowless boxes with a plywood door and a shared geyser, and they are photographed to look identical online. Read recent reviews rather than the listing, insist on seeing the room before paying, and expect the ₹1,499 rate to become ₹1,750 with taxes at the desk. Above ₹3,500 you are into the small business hotels on the main highway frontage, which are a genuinely decent deal.
At 9pm the service road is headlights and horns, dhabas frying paranthas, hotel touts loitering by the kerb and rooftop restaurants doing beer and butter chicken for ₹700 a head. It is not dangerous, but it is aggressive: unsolicited offers of taxis, tours, cheaper rooms, and drivers who will tell you your hotel has burned down and drive you to a travel agent instead. That last one is a genuine, long-running Delhi scam. Book your own transport, refuse all doorstep offers, and phone your hotel directly if a driver claims anything unusual.
Stay in Mahipalpur for one night around a flight, for a very cheap base if you are heading to Gurugram or Jaipur by road the next morning, or if you want ₹1,800 rooms within a taxi ride of the terminals. Skip it for anything else. There is no metro station — the nearest are Terminal 1–IGI Airport on the Magenta Line and Delhi Aerocity on the Airport Express, both about three to four kilometres — the pavements are broken or absent, and the nearest thing to a sight is a shopping mall in Vasant Kunj.

Prefer the lanes of Mahipalpur Extension one or two turns back from the NH-48 service road: still five minutes from the highway, several decibels quieter, and often cheaper for a bigger room. The highway frontage itself has the better-known small business hotels and the worst noise. Bands are ₹1,100 to ₹1,800 for a basic double, ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 for a clean room with lift, breakfast and free airport pickup, and ₹3,500 to ₹6,000 for the larger properties near the Radisson end of the strip. Avoid any room without an external window, avoid ground-floor rooms opening onto the reception corridor, and avoid places that will not confirm the pickup in writing. Verify the exact address on a map before booking — dozens of properties here market themselves as being in Aerocity, which is a separate district 3 km away with prices five times higher.

- Break a road trip to Jaipur or GurugramMahipalpur sits on the NH-48 out of Delhi, which makes it the logical last or first stop for the Jaipur run — around five hours on the expressway — and a 20-minute hop to Gurugram's Cyber Hub. Self-drive and taxi operators cluster along the service road. Agree the toll and driver allowance in advance in writing.
