Visitors come for the Mughal stonework and the courtyard, then stay for the lanes around it: spice markets, 1913 kebabs, silver bazaars and the best street food in India. Be realistic about the visit. Jama Masjid closes to sightseers during the five daily prayers, the lanes are narrow and between 11am and 6pm the crowd sets the pace, and much of the surrounding market shuts on Sunday, including Khari Baoli.
