The Delhi-Topra Pillar is a lesser-known survivor of Shahjahanabad, the walled city Shah Jahan moved his capital to in 1648. It stands in Old Delhi (Chandni Chowk), where the street plan of that city remains visible: the Red Fort at the eastern end, Fatehpuri Masjid at the western, and Chandni Chowk running between them. Visitors come because the pillar is part of that same fabric — a fragment of the old city standing in lanes that still hold Kinari Bazaar for wedding trim, Dariba Kalan for silver, Nai Sarak for books and Khari Baoli for spices. The main road was rebuilt and pedestrianised in 2021, with no cars between 9am and 9pm, which makes reaching the pillar on foot much easier.
