Rishikesh is well-connected by road and rail. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, about 35 kilometres away. Rishikesh railway station is on the western bank, with regular trains from Haridwar and other cities, and Haridwar Junction, about 25 kilometres away, is a major railhead. From New Delhi you can drive via the NH334 and NH34, roughly 230 kilometres. Buses and taxis run from Delhi and Haridwar. Within Rishikesh, auto-rickshaws, cycle rickshaws and taxis are common, and walking is often the best way to explore the narrow lanes, especially around Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula. Buses and shared jeeps connect different areas.
