Typically 25 to 35 minutes to Terminal 3 by taxi, and closer to 20 minutes at 5am, because you join NH-8 at Dhaula Kuan almost immediately; it is one of the shortest airport runs in central Delhi. Allow an extra 30 minutes on weekday evenings between 6pm and 9pm, when the Ring Road backs up badly. On foot, Shanti Path, Niti Marg and the surrounding roads are public and pleasant, especially before 9am, though do not photograph gates, guards or security installations.
When to go
Early mornings are the best time to be out here: walk before 9am, when Shanti Path is shaded and empty. The route between the Ashok on Kautilya Marg, Nehru Park, Vinay Marg, Shanti Path, the National Rail Museum and Malcha Marg market is almost entirely shaded and almost entirely empty, but unpleasant between May and September after 9am.
