Saket to Connaught Place: Metro Route and Journey Time

The direct route: Yellow Line, no changes

Saket station sits on the Yellow Line, and so does Rajiv Chowk, the stop right under Connaught Place. That makes the journey one of the simplest in the city: board any train heading towards Samaypur Badli and stay on until Rajiv Chowk. The ride covers 15 stations and typically takes 35 to 40 minutes. Trains run every 3 to 5 minutes at peak times and every 8 to 10 minutes off-peak. The first train leaves Saket around 5:30 am, and the last service is a little after 11 pm, so a late dinner in CP is possible but not a late night.

If you are staying near Saket, the walk to the station matters. Hotels along Press Enclave Road and in Saket District Centre are 5 to 10 minutes on foot from the platform. Properties further south, around Chhatarpur or Mehrauli, need an auto to the station first, adding 10 to 15 minutes and 50 to 80 rupees to the trip. If you are booking a hotel in Saket specifically for this commute, choose one within walking distance of the station rather than one that requires a daily auto.

Which station to use: Saket vs Malviya Nagar

Saket has two metro stations on the Yellow Line: Saket and Malviya Nagar. Saket station is closer to Select Citywalk, DLF Place, and the Press Enclave Road hotels. Malviya Nagar station serves the residential blocks and the main market and is one stop closer to Rajiv Chowk, cutting about four minutes off the journey. If your hotel is on the Malviya Nagar side, use that station. If you are in Saket District Centre, Saket station is the obvious choice.

The difference is small but worth knowing when you book. A hotel near Malviya Nagar metro will get you to Connaught Place in around 30 minutes; a hotel near Saket station in around 35. The trade-off is that Saket has more hotel inventory and the malls, while Malviya Nagar is quieter and slightly cheaper. For a short trip focused on sightseeing in central Delhi, either works, but I would pick Saket for the choice of hotels and walkability.

Timing your ride: peak hours and the Rajiv Chowk exit

The Yellow Line is busy in both directions during office hours. The worst window is 8:30 to 10:30 am towards Rajiv Chowk and 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the reverse direction. If you can travel outside those times, you will likely get a seat from Saket, since the line is less crowded at the southern end. Mid-morning, around 11 am, is the sweet spot: trains are frequent and the platforms are manageable. For a day of sightseeing around CP, aim to arrive by 10 am to beat the heat in summer.

Rajiv Chowk station is huge, with 16 exits, so check which one you need before you go up. For Connaught Place's inner circle, exit 8 or 9 puts you near the central park and the blocks. For the outer circle and Janpath, exit 1 or 2 is better. The station is air-conditioned and has lifts, but the walk from the platform to the exit can take 5 minutes at a busy time. Allow for that when you plan a meeting or a meal reservation.

Alternatives and what to skip

An auto or taxi from Saket to Connaught Place takes 25 to 50 minutes depending on traffic, and costs 300 to 450 rupees. That is faster only very early in the morning or late at night; during the day, the metro is almost always quicker and costs a fraction of the price. App-based cabs are easy to find in Saket, but the ride can be stop-start along Aurobindo Marg and then through the ITO or Connaught Place bottlenecks. For a single traveller or a couple, the metro wins on both time and cost.

What I would skip: the Airport Express Line from New Delhi station to Rajiv Chowk is not useful for this trip, and the Violet Line requires a change at Central Secretariat or Mandi House, adding time. If you are staying in Saket for more than a few days, buy a metro card or use the QR ticketing app; the queue at the ticket machines can eat 10 minutes at peak times. For a hotel booking, I would choose a property within 10 minutes' walk of Saket metro and plan to be on the platform by 10 am for a hassle-free run to CP.
